Pros

Smaller, personal company. Everyone knows everyone else. Owner operated. Flexible and open to employee feedback. Room to grow if interest is shown. Lots of different opportunities to learn. Owner reimburses for continued education. Green company- if you are into that. Lots of potential to leave the office for onsites during the day, but also remote work done in the office if you want to stay at your desk. Very family friendly. Our kids are loved and cared for by co-workers and management. Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated, usually with food. When work is done, lots of opportunity to play (fun stuff in office).

Cons

Small company means there are less opportunities for an upper management position if you want one. Some people may not like working in team work environment (prefer isolated tech work position). Compex supports many different type and sized networks- not just one, compared to a dedicated tech position in a company. So that can be a difficult transition for some- learning and knowing so many different configurations.

Pros

Progressive company that truly cares about it's employees. I mean come on, they have a rock climbing wall in the warehouse!

Cons

None that I can think of.

Pros

Company tries to be environmentally friendly, get to work with a wide variety of small business technologies, generally flexible with days off and usually got out of the office by 5. Aside from management coworkers were pleasant to work with and created a good atmosphere.

Cons

Owner is constantly changing his mind on business strategy and services. Is extremely passive-aggressive and he can be very petty over misunderstandings and mistakes. Not a learning environment, you’re expected to know everything that a senior IT technician would, while getting paid a few bucks over minimum wage. There are very few growth opportunities available as this is a very small business, don’t expect to do more than desktop support and small business server management. If you do have any sort of degree or training, most of it will go to waste here. Little to no benifits or PTO. Constant stream of technicians, most leave after realizing they can make more elsewhere.

Compex Response

Thank you for the feedback. Not only did we take to heart the things said in the above review, we made real changes based on this and want to provide an update. It’s true, Compex has experienced massive growth, and with it came the struggles of growing pains. We have worked diligently over the last year to reinforce parts of the business that have been effected such as documentation, policies, work space, pay and benefits. We are very proud of that progress and happy to report we are still growing! Starting technicians make 50% more than they did even a few years ago. We have added additional benefits and PTO as well as a huge new tech room and work area in our new building. We are always sad to see our technicians leave, but know and understand that often people’s personal goals change during the duration of their employment with us. In working with numerous types of technologies, there is often potential for interest in positions we do not offer, and even though we lose an employee, we are excited for their professional growth. We have had technicians leave us to work for the FBI and Cisco. Other former employees hold positions as senior technicians at banks and IT management in hospitals. These are positions we cannot offer here of course, but we often stay in contact with these employees and celebrate their personal success. Individuals who show an interest in receiving more responsibility typically receive compensation that matches their skillset and ability to manage tasks. While our starting wage for technicians has not always been impressive, we have always tried to compensate in other personal ways. We have always reimbursed individuals for continuing education. In the past, we have offered flexible schedules for individuals completing education and other non-monetary benefits to new employees. We are able to do this because we are a small business and understand that just like our services, our employees are not one-size-fits-all.
