Pros

Remote work opportunities and flexible schedules. Very nice co-workers, low-stress environment. Interesting software niche in the electrical contracting industry.

Cons

ConEst's flagship products, IntelliBid and SureCount, have a dated and tired look. They are still Windows desktop applications in a world where web-based cloud solutions rule. The technology is quite old and the current owners don't seem to want to invest much in updating these pivotal products. It's a shame because there is a ton of excellent business logic wrapped within, like a superhero trapped in an old man's body. If you have a passion for the development and improvement of software products, you will likely be disappointed here. I think that as long as customers keep renewing and the cash keeps rolling in, the owners will keep milking these cash cows, to the point of death.

Pros

Things have greatly improved over the last few years. We were working from home before covid-19 so we were ready for it. We have the choice of work from home or coming into the office any day or days we want. There are good benefits with company matching 401k contributions. There's a focus on making sure the employees are happy. There is a real team atmosphere where everyone pitches in to resolve issues.

Cons

I can't really think of any at this time.

Pros

Their electrical estimating software is the best in the industry. It is a Windows desktop product and a bit dated, however; I don't know if they've yet created a web or mobile version. Location is good if you live in the Greater Manchester area. Quiet working environment. On the tech side of the house, management tells you what needs to be done and then pretty much lets you figure it out and work on it as you see fit. Good opportunities to teach yourself new technologies as you go along.

Cons

All of the weirdness shared by other reviewers is absolutely true and accurate. If anything, they understate the awful working environment. It feels like a strange combination of prison camp and kindergarten. If you're thick-skinned and just want to keep your head down and work hard and do whatever your told, you can survive okay. But if you seek affirmation and approval for your work from your manager, and/or want your input and ideas considered, this would not be a good place for you. I've literally seen people (women and men) reduced to tears. The pay and benefits are average. Owners keep the place dimly lit (maybe to save money on electricity?). They don't like people using cellphones and frown on employees chatting with others in the office. One of the owners appears to suffer from numerous antisocial neuroses. Underlying their flagship product is a seemingly endless stream of MS SQL Server stored procedures. I think at some point the product was redesigned by an employee whose strengths were as a DBA, so he did things with stored procs that really should have been done in the .Net code.
