Pros

Nothing. Unless you're still new or beginner in new media arts, or trying to have a job while you are babysitting for your grandchildren. Large clientele of good named schools. Ample of freedom to how you want your lesson to run, just so because you clear up your mess if you messed up.

Cons

The projects are not accounted properly. Most or even main issues are brought up by miscommunication, lack of accountability and management. From the deep down to the main core of standardisation of the course curriculum, teaching materials, to marketing and branding awareness, logistics and maintenance of equipments, all these are getting worst. Right now even handling over of the teaching and systems to newer generation of instructors are also not managed properly. In fact I don't see any improvements ever since. There are no growth or competitive salary. You start of at S$1800, irregardless of whether you have a good background in arts or just purely pedagogy. All contracts are two years, and you are technically considered like a sign-on contract. From 2008 this has been the salary till now, 2021. No inflation consideration or bonus growth. That leads to you most of the time 50% of the income are used for your daily travelling to school, food. Bear in mind, the only way is eating canteen food or lunchboxes throughout this duration, in order to save up for your future. You will also be most of the time, waking up to early morning where the Sun hasn't even rise to reach to the school just like the kids are going to, irregardless of where you are staying or located at. The last 12 years experience instructors are only paid with S$3000, you can see how much sufferings the instructors have gone through, and still no improvements over time. Note, right now even MOE teachers are paid at least S$3500. Notice ever since then none of them lasted more than two years, just so because this contract is a contract to massive workload and overhaul. The medical leave are also an utter nonsense, because you are not allowed to be sick if there's a lesson going on on that day. That means you are only allowed to be sick when it is a school holiday or public holiday. Surprise! You might be thinking, "Oh the kids are also having holiday, so I am free!" Sorry no, you will be also doing the marketing side of the company or even generating graphic design materials to promote the courses during this period just so for the next future projects. Most of the time, in fact 70% of the day you are actually either travelling, waiting for class, bus, or having lunch. Remember if you're applying for part-time, all these are time eater, and these duration might not be even be accounted for. Since you will only be compensated for only the lesson duration, let to say even expecting you to come to lessons 30 minutes beforehand.
