Review - Anonymous employee Crosstree Employee Review

My experience working at Crosstree as an intern was extremely influential to my career. Crosstree is unique in that there is a metal shop on the first floor and a design studio on the second, where you can complete your design from concept to reality. At Crosstree, I was encouraged to push the boundaries of design and to learn new skills. Travis, the owner, was a great mentor and was willing to offer his time and knowledge to his employees which is rare to find at most companies. I also enjoyed working with the team there, as they were often people from different backgrounds and experiences, all of whom were passionate about design and building. Overall, Crosstree was an impactful and rewarding experience that I believe to be a great opportunity for those in the design field.

My overall experience was positive.

Truly unique place to work. I learned A TON while working at Crosstree, and I consider it to be a very formative experience from my early career. Because it is a small operation, I was exposed to all different aspects of running a business, including product development, marketing, and manufacturing. I developed an array of fabrication skills and gained experience in project management and client interface. The work itself is interesting and very satisfying to contribute to. The shop is clean and well-equipped. Travis is willing to provide knowledge and resources to help you develop your skills and your ideas as long as you are motivated.

The pay was low and the hours were long sometimes. My wage was proportionate to my fabrication experience level (which was nonexistent), not my effort. The nature of the work and the small size of the company led to some stressful moments. It's not an easy role, and you'll get as much out of it as you are willing to put in. I knew all this at the time, and I considered (and still consider) the experience to be worthwhile.
