Pros
Free of micro management since work is in the field (outdoors). Progress your experience in construction inspection covering residential, commercial for both private and public projects.
Cons
worked on various projects, covered multi crews on different sites on the same day, did overtime, travelled to another city, stayed overnight and drove back to home on the weekends for distant projects (yes work-life balance can be poor). unpredictable schedule since it is tied to the contractors' schedule, must find restroom often times to take a leak. Sent home on rainy days or extreme cold days without being paid. Used my personal car for ridicules car allowance (~21 cents per mileage and only counts after 45 minutes or 30 miles drive). Your car is your office, must endure sitting in the driver seat for long hours if weather is extreme and/or assigned on state project (being on the highway). Did all that with minimum benefits. 2 weeks PTO started off on the 2nd year. Great place for being exploited. No promising promotion and 1% annual raise in a 9.5 market inflation is NOT a raise! Company did not invest to be certified during my time (2 years). Management does not check on their employees.
