Can't believe I've been here so long... - Clerk Denver Public Library Employee Review

Pros

Benefits are just 'okay' Some really good coworkers

Cons

Leadership is out of touch and only cares about themselves and their job security. Response to the pandemic was extremely poor, the lowest-paid people were put upon to run the library. Poor wages were widespread and stagnant and would continue to be until staff unionized. Leadership is still opposed to the union. Higher-ups still work from home.

Pros

Public service and all of the amazing work DPL does for the communities we serve. Creating opportunities for access.

Cons

Upper management is totally disconnected from the rest of front line staff. When provided with feedback, they take it personally as a blow to their egos and not as feedback to the systems that could be improved. Morale is very low and while people are committed to DPL's values, most people do not see upper management upholding those values. There is also very little accountability put in place for upper administration. Internal communications could be improved. Better training for supervisors is desperately needed. And as many people have noted, very little to no job mobility. Professional development is a joke and barely exists. Come here is your want your career to stay stagnant.
