Pros

Incredible industry to work in, there are good people that work at Desert Tech, that want to get things done and contribute. Can often get connections with other industry companies for personal discounts (if you shooting is a hobby of yours). The company seems to be trying to implement better processes like lean management. CEO is passionate about the industry.

Cons

The direction of the company is based upon the daily mood of the CEO. Department heads are not allowed to make final decisions in their jurisdiction, all major decisions must be made by the CEO (very micromanaged). The organization is riddled with family politics, and you are often stuck trying to not upset family members rather than do your job. The truly unfortunate part is they do not value their suppliers. They will order excessively based on "needs" and often leave suppliers out to dry on payment. The only way they end up getting paid is if the company is up against a wall and can't ship product without it. Many personal relationships of employees have been destroyed with vendors because they end up not getting paid. The upper management team seems to have no real concepts of running a company financially or embracing and fostering interwork relationships. All though many are passionate about the industry all "good ideas" come from the top. Most decisions are dictated from the top and actual practical knowledge brought into the company from employees hired on is often discarded as sub-par.

Desert Tech Response
8y
Over that past 18 months Desert Tech was restructured from a small-scale to large-scale engineering and manufacturing company. This involved creating inter-departmental processes to significantly increase our engineering and production output, to increase our product quality, and to reduce our leads times and costs. These efforts significantly streamlined the supply chain and forced departmental functions to coordinate with the rest of the supply chain. Unfortunately, many employees could not see the overall vision and did not want to implement new processes, some people even fought against the needed changes. We lost several employees during the restructuring, but the benefits of restructuring outweighed the stress and difficulty of the transition. Desert Tech is happy to report that after the restructuring production output increased 400% and operating costs have decreased 35%. DT expects production output to have a total increase of 800% within the next quarter. It was a difficult and stressful transition for the company and our team. Desert Tech respects all former staff members who elected to not be a part of the transition. Sincerely Nicholas Young CEO, Desert Tech, LLC
