Pros

The field workers are tough, dedicated, and loyal. Many have worked there for decades. The best parts of the company are its people, especially those who work in the field or directly with the clients. Lots of industry knowledge within the employees there. The Commercial construction department is a highlight, with low turnover compared to the Residential Design and Maintenance Departments. Also, the owner sponsors permanent residency for H2B visa workers for a few each year, a great way to support their workforce where it counts. In short, this is a good place for newcomers to the landscape industry to gain experience and knowledge.

Cons

This company may suffer from not knowing where it wants to go. For most positions, there is little to no upward mobility. Assistant Designers face difficulties moving into full designer positions, and Account Managers in their Maintenance Department have very little incentive for upwards growth or increased sales.

Pros

Interns were treated well (at least in the maintenance department), and it was clear they wanted me to learn a lot from the experience. The pay was also good for an internship position.

Cons

Depending on the time of season there wasn't always a lot to do.

Pros

The field staff is commendable and hard working.

Cons

The upper management clique lacks support and respect for its employees. There is no guidance nor assistance given, resulting in a general hostile atmosphere. This culture produced from upper management allows for blatant unprofessionality to occur on a daily basis (shouting in the middle of the office, disrespectful email correspondence, etc.). This behavior is deemed acceptable from the CEO's own personal behavior. Furthermore, the pay is horrible and there is no room for advancement.
