Pros

The company tends to hire good people with solid work ethic.

Cons

There is no business plan or strategy for growth, so resources are spent going after too many diverse opportunities without devoting the resources necessary to be successful in any one area. The result is an overextended workforce that dedicates more time to proposals than to project management. Not only do employees put in long hours unnecessarily, there is little appreciation or recognition for doing so, and that time spent on unsuccessful proposals does not generate revenue needed to be eligible for bonuses or other compensation. Also, be very meticulous about reviewing the benefits package before accepting an offer. Benefit information is very carefully worded to allow the company to not hold true to what is offered. Employees have also negotiated benefits only to have those negotiations not honored. There is obvious nepotism that goes unmentioned.

Pros

ECODIT strikes a perfect balance between the flexibility of a small business and the structure of a larger organization. The home office team, including HR, finance, and contracts, is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and supportive, providing the resources employees need without unnecessary bureaucracy. Their policies and systems are well-designed to enable staff to focus on their work while maintaining a smooth operational environment. I highly recommend ECODIT to anyone seeking to work in USAID contracting, particularly in the fields of environment, resilience, climate, and energy.

Cons

ECODIT operates primarily as a virtual organization, which I find to be a positive aspect, though some may prefer an in-office work environment for collaboration. From what I understand, the Arlington, VA office is being utilized more frequently by staff. While the different practice areas can sometimes feel siloed, these barriers are largely perceived. In my experience, I have been able to connect across practices and access the resources and support I need with ease.
