Pros

Good mission Nice location Gym on site Paid vacation time & holiday shut down Work from home 1 day/week (though expect to be micro-managed on this) Mid-level management is good!

Cons

Long work days with little flexibility zero transparency or two way communication. Zero opportunity for real growth employees can feel taken advantage of when promised opportunities never see the light of day. Constructive feedback is not taken professionally by upper management and employees suffer due to sometimes childish clique behaviour among higher ups. Do not expect to be given constructive feedback on your work either, even during reviews. You can put everything into your work until total burn out, but don’t expect recognition from upper management team. Culture can be toxic. Departments don’t seem to know what each does. Very poor organizational skills, planning and efficiency Have seen/heard very inappropriate comments from upper management. If you are not a favourite everyone will know, staff can tell if you are not well liked as a person, regardless of your work ethic. This is a popularity contest. Expect to work overtime without any added benefit of doing so. High turnover rate due to poor opportunities and compensation - don’t be fooled by false promises No HR for employees to advocate to. Cold dry air and difficult conditions to work in; driveway is not properly maintained and you will see cars in the ditch during the winter, conditions can be unsafe! Tensions run high due to lack of proper management and undue stress linked to poor communication. Job security is questionable even if you’re doing a good job. General feeling that eventually you are pushed out when your skills are above your current role, rather than providing opportunities for growth.

Pros

The mission is fantastic and programs, like the Podcast and educational approach are top notch. There are highly creative and talented team members and the creative teams have excellent leadership and cultures

Cons

The overall culture coming from the Board and executive leadership feels a bit overly controlling, rigid and corporate; it doesn’t resonate internally consistent with the innovative and fun branding put out externally; not a learning organization

Pros

When the job is rewarding, you can't imagine working anywhere else. Teaching children about climate change, providing environmental education, and instilling eco-friendly habits is incredibly worthwhile. The benefits are generous, the facilities are beautiful and well-appointed and my team members are kind and creative. Running into armadillos and owls throughout the day is always a plus.

Cons

The organization inexcusably accepts funding from fossil fuel companies and has no plans to drop these sponsors, which undercuts everything we do. This isn't my only ethical concern about working here: Tovah largely keeps her political views to herself, and understandably so; they are reprehensible. And I had to laugh when I saw the most recent review, which echoed a lot of the concerns about leadership that I was going to discuss here. There is a culture of disorganization and passing the buck to the employees lowest on the org chart. Probably the most egregious example of this is that we purport to be a fully bilingual organization, but only two of our staff members speak French, and literally all translation duties fall to a single junior employee who has a full portfolio of other job responsibilities.
