Pros

I was thrown into the deep end when I was hired at ECS, in a role and a business I knew nothing about. But the leadership believed in me, which drove me to succeed. Employees are treated as individuals. The leadership knows what's going on in everybody's lives: Who is just getting over being sick, who just bought their first house, etc. Leadership is also quick to given credit for any wins to the team, any credit for the company's success to the people in it. If you lose a loved one, you can expect flowers to show up from your work family to show up at the funeral. If you're in the hospital, balloons are likely to show up by your bedside. The culture is equally challenging and encouraging which brings out the best in almost everybody. They have an inherent trust in their employees, empowering them to make decisions to keep the company moving forward.

Cons

With such a fast-moving business, communication can suffer. Business opportunities can pop up, which can put employees back on their heels trying to meet unexpected deadlines. People are always functioning at high capacity, which can lead to burnout. The initiation phase if short, if at all. There seems to be a gap in new-hire training. Supervisors are always willing to answer questions, which is great as long as you know what to ask. However, the leadership is always evaluating, always looking for ways to improve systems and processes. They are open to suggestions and always willing to help. Regular check-in meetings with supervisors keep communication open and expectations clear.

Pros

Leadership understands that not all managers or management in their current positions are the best fit, they are very adamant about ensuring their employees are in the best positions that allow them to flourish. The leadership takes all course of action to protect their employees and not just let them go. Unfortunately, there are times it is not manageable due to the inability of the employee.

Cons

Previously, some management would protect certain employees and allow the more qualified person to be let go, OR, management would not look at what qualifications or requirements for work were coming up and let go resources that had the qualifications for those requirements.

Pros

My time at ECS was great until the last 18 months—I was there nearly nine years. During that time, I grew my career and earned a seat at the table. I worked for and with some of the finest people doing interesting work. I was well compensated, and management made it clear that I was valued.

Cons

ECS's business lives and dies with government contracts. You should be prepared for rapid business expansion and contraction—it's the nature of the industry. Management lost its sense of direction around 2022. The business strategies changed, and that elusive thing that made it a great workplace was lost. The transition was painful. I wish I had left sooner, on a high note. - Communication is poor and uneven. For example, I was moved under a different manager without being told. I had to puzzle it out for myself. - Benefits aren't great. For example, it takes too many years to be elevated to the next level of PTO, and insurance is expensive. - Veterans are preferred.
