Pros

Lots of friendly staff, nice office in good City location, self directed work, wasn’t micro managed. Good opportunities to develop project management skills with excellent support from a dedicated project monitoring member of staff

Cons

Huge distrust of staff with to-the-minute clockwatching. Quite a secretive culture amongst senior management and felt patronised several times. Funded by Shell and BAE systems. Zero acknowledgement of barriers to certain groups progressing within engineering sector such as adequate parental leave/carers leave and pay. Also v little emphasis on soft skills needed for engineering careers. I did leave a good while ago though so these things could of course changed.

Pros

- interesting work, making a difference to young people - opportunities to develop personally and professionally - friendly, sociable and collaborative environment

Cons

- fast paced, can feel like there's little time to reflect - some roles split across teams, meaning there's a constant need to juggle priorities and workload - organisation engages the breadth of engineering which means at times working with ethically dubious sectors like weapons manufacturing
