Pros

Hard working, loyal, clinically sound staff who will go out of their way to provide an excellent service to the patient

Cons

Lack of staff, lack of vehicles, inconsistent and poor call handling/dispatching protocols. 'Jobs for the boys' - managers who are 'yes men' get promoted to power allowing management to empire build not for the greater good. Lack of moral due to lack if leadership (managers don't empower and support staff), lack of communication, everything by email - no online database of information, little face-to-face or group discussions/learning. Bullyboy tacktics from management -lack of leadership training.

Pros

Eventually people can go on the road Eventually there is development opportunities The training is paid

Cons

In the 2 years I have worked for the trust I have witnessed roughly 40 call handlers lose their jobs, mostly for unfair reasons. The trust uses agency contracts for the majority of its recruitment, which essentially means if a manager does not like an employee they will simply ‘refer them back to the agency’ without warning. I do find this very unfair - agency staff are expected to commit 100%, work Christmas, and apply for annual leave in the same way trust employed staff would. The job is very stressful and this doesn’t do well for supporting staff turnover or morale, is a very old fashioned way of working. Extremely high pressure
