Internship was a great experience! I learnt a lot and was given many responsibilities. - Development Analyst Epic Foundation Employee Review

Pros

The culture at Epic is great: very entrepreneurial and fast-paced if compared with many non-profits. My learning curve in terms of the global philanthropic landscape and M&E standards was really steep. Over three months I was assigned growing degrees of responsibility, and feel like I was really supported in my learning process by senior management. I particularly appreciated their willingness to tailor some of my assignments so as to make it easier for me to pursue my choice of career at the end of the internship. The internship is also paid, which is great and really unusual for a nonprofit.

Cons

As the initial intern with the start-up team, I can say that early employees should be ready for a start-up environment.

Pros

Really appreciate the thoughtfulness of the approach around philanthropy. It brings a fresh perspective to a field that often lacks capacity to reinvent itself. The management is very supportive of testing new ideas. The motto is pretty much along the lines of “test, succeed and/or learn and move fast”. It’s definitely a start-up environment so you have to be willing and ready to work in a fast paced environment and be nimble enough to adapt to shifting focuses and strategies. That’s what makes it interesting but you have to be looking for that because it’s definitely not the hyper structured routine kind of job. For people who are entrepreneurial, looking to grow, be challenged and get out of their comfort zone I would highly recommend it. Every day is different and I think that’s what the teams appreciates. Everyone in the team is super smart, always ready to take time to share insights and feedback even across different offices, time zones… There is a pretty open line of communication with the management and founder and there is always room to voice an opinion (although the team is pretty opinionated so be ready to come with arguments!)

Cons

It’s a growing team with a big ambition so it’s definitely a challenge to figure out work/life balance especially in a team with super passionate people who never count their hours. Working across different time zones with a lot of people working remotely can also make it a little challenging on the team building side but they are definitely working on improving that.
