Pros

Epic Lanka is a good place for interns and fresh graduates to gain experience, especially in fintech and banking domain knowledge. Employees get exposure to enterprise systems, production environments, and real customer requirements early in their careers. Some team leads and colleagues are very supportive and helpful for learning.

Cons

In my experience, the company is better as a starting point rather than a long-term career destination for software engineers. The workload can be very high compared to the compensation provided. Salaries are lower than many companies in the industry, and increments often do not properly reflect employee effort, ownership, or performance. There have also been very limited employee benefits and bonuses over the years. The company relies heavily on interns and junior developers instead of bringing experienced external engineers into teams. Because of this, some projects lack strong technical guidance, modern engineering practices, and proper mentoring structures. One major challenge is project handovers without proper documentation or KT (Knowledge Transfer). Developers are often expected to maintain or enhance systems with minimal background knowledge, requiring significant self-research and troubleshooting. There is also a noticeable lack of experienced technical leadership in some areas due to senior employees and tech leads leaving the company over time. This creates additional pressure on remaining developers, who sometimes have to directly handle customer or production issues without enough architectural or management support. Another issue is accountability and process management. In some situations, architectural or design problems are shifted between teams or individuals instead of being addressed collaboratively. This can create stress and confusion during critical production issues. Work culture can sometimes feel management-driven rather than engineering-driven. Employees who work very hard may still receive similar recognition or increments compared to others with lower responsibilities, which can reduce motivation over time. There is also very limited flexibility regarding hybrid or remote work opportunities, despite many software companies moving toward more flexible environments.
