I will never forget the layoff - Travel Advisor Evolve Employee Review

Pros

The handling of business during covid was lackluster at best. The experience (turmoil) that myself and 124 others felt during the layoff is something I will never forget. Company wide meeting, about 15 minutes long that concluded with "and check your email to see if it was you or not" like some kind of life-changing roulette based lottery. Some of the most tenured, most caring, most qualified folks were laid off and covid was the only reasoning we got. We were all lost and very angry. It was such a hard time as it was and not to mention myself and others joining their "black swan task force" to man the front lines led to NO job security. When the pay was as low as it was, and then you get laid off without any good reason, it is hard to look back with love. I was such a big proponent of the company, even went for leadership and a lateral position and volunteered for the COVID task force, but none of it mattered. Not to mention, my direct report months after the layoff left me "on read" when I tried to check in and say hello/ make a connection. You can try not to take it personal, but when you do not even get responses from your direct manager, it is hard to say. More to add- I tried to get my position back when they were re-hiring my position so soon after the layoff, another blemish, and they sent me an email with 1 sentence I can reduce only to "we picked another candidate". After you work there for a year and a half which was considered decent tenure during my Evolve era, Evolve really should have done more there. Unprofessional and sheepish company overall. It is hard to trust a company again after what Evolve did to us, but I will move on- we all had to!

Cons

Culture was young and up beat, the happy hours were a great way to meet other team members, the goals were attainable and the company stayed very transparent about funding, goals, and trajectory. Egan was a great guy that made a bad choice, and overall my friends that still work at Evolve seem to be at least 75% happy with their jobs.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review. We completely agree that the layoffs during the pandemic were extremely difficult for everyone. As shared by our CEO – it was truly the single hardest moment in Evolve’s history and it was not a decision that was taken lightly. We’ll be the first to admit that we’ve been tested through COVID, as have most other companies – especially in the travel sector. Just as with the layoff itself, the decision on how to deliver the news to our teams was taken very seriously. Our ultimate approach was made with transparency in mind and was the best option given our newly remote environment. That said, we know there is no positive way to share that type of message and can absolutely understand your frustration. Thanks again for leaving your feedback. We wish you the best of luck in the future.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and we're glad you enjoyed your role as a VRA. This team plays a crucial role in delivering for our owners and guests. We hold high expectations for all teams and wouldn't characterize VRA work as easy, but we do hope it's always manageable and allows Evolvers to thrive within and outside of Evolve.

Pros

Wonderful teammates that quickly become the only reason you stick with Evolve, outside of a steady paycheck.

Cons

Too many to list truly. This company is grasping at straws to survive in the short-term vacation rental industry; despite being manhandled at every turn by "partner" companies such as Airbnb. The company is literally always changing the goal post and then blaming the frontline team for not meeting their insane expectations. You will deal with multiple shift bids during the year, mainly to follow their random firing/layoffs that they wish to keep quiet. Constant system changes, staff changes and new responsibilities that are often rushed and not yet ready to be implemented, and an incredible lack of care from leadership. Nonexistent training for all of the new responsibilities you will take on after the layoff of an important team. By the time I left in April 2026, I had taken on partner services, guest support, owner support, listing optimization, booking management, damage claims for substantial incident reports and more. All of which you are expected to complete with back to back inbound calls to uphold the "customer-obsession" role. When they have decided to put you and at least 5 other teammates on the same chopping block, they will claim you were "avoiding work" or "on a call too long" to avoid any accountability for the drastic amount of issues at this company. I have had 7 MANAGERS within a 3.5 year span. If you absolutely have to work here, the only way to get through it is to completely disassociate and be sure to use your 10 EAP sessions...
