Pros
I really appreciated the time the deaf community spent teaching me Auslan and about their culture. I had great managers when I first started who taught me a lot about what true accessibility looked like for deaf people and how I could genuinely centre them in my work.
Cons
Expression has changed from a community organisation that doesn't cater for the whole community a lot of their focus has moved to catering to hearing Mums with deaf babies, an important service but there isn't a lot of support for deaf adults. Higher staff don't understand the challenges the industry faces so service framework isn't relevant or supportive of staff. My manager constantly gaslight me and when I told HR (4 times) they told me to manage these conversations at a local level, it eventually was the reason I left.
