Pros

You're trusted with independence and can listen to podcasts and music while working. Co-workers were helpful, kind and interesting people who are passionate about plants. Forest Park is a beautiful setting to be at all day.

Cons

Seemed a little silly that they suggest having formal horticultural education for the position, as the position doesn't pay well and often involves weeding for the entire 8 our day. Lack of communication between management and lead horticulturalists caused lots of wasted labor and time. My team was assigned to the playscape project, which is very far behind due to the pandemic. They don't seem to have a plan for catching the project up besides putting hard labor on existing employees. I asked for part time hours to make time for an education program I was accepted into and was laid off.

Pros

Non-profit organization, outside, generous stipend for work clothes, etc.

Cons

Little to no room for growth. Huge disparity between field staff pay and those working in salaried office jobs.
