Pros

Very good camaraderie amongst the sales staff and national company that did allow you to promise what other suppliers could not. Redskins tailgate is also a nice bonus that allows you to meet with customers in a nice setting.

Cons

Whenever I tell anyone about what I had to go through at Ferguson, people just look at me like I am crazy for staying there as long as I did. 1. The hours are terrible if you want to have any kind of a normal family. Ten hour days are mandatory and they try to give you this BS that you are salary but make no mistake, you are hourly. 2. Vacation or holidays- Even though you are expected to work ten hour days, you only get paid for eight hours if you take off on vacation or for any holiday. It prevented you from taking any kind of extended vacation from pretty stressful work because if you took a week vacation, you would lose out on two hours of pay each day that totaled for me almost $350. I noticed that they just put up on their website that they have a motto that they ``work hard, play hard''. How juvenile is that? Sure you work hard, but then you party hard to forget what a crappy company that you work for. 3. Company is run by folks that have been at Ferguson their entire careers. At first, this is what drew me to this company, but it was frustrating because they operate the company, just as they did when they started with the company. Every other job I have been at, we would consult with other companies to discuss best practices… At Ferguson, we just keep our head in the sand and keep thinking that it’s our way and that is it. 4. If you were a female trainee, I feel sorry for your time in the warehouse. 5. Hello, it is 2009, I think it’s time you all stopped working in a DOS operating system! 6. Ferguson cuts employees and closes branch’s yet they still allow branch managers and other higher ups a company leased vehicle and cell phones? This makes no sense, most of the branch managers never leave the branch! Why do they need a car? Why do warehouse supervisors and managers need a cell phone but sales reps do not? 7. You must not question management or else you are done. 8. Management doesn’t give a crap if you are not a sales person. When I was working in a non sales position, I would email my GM routinely and would get no response whatsoever. And we were also told that we were not supposed to go and ask him the question in person even though his office was right upstairs. 9. No exit interviews. I asked for one and was told that since I did not want to work for Ferguson any longer, it didnt matter what I thought. 10. You work Saturdays 11. Did I mention the mandatory 10 hour work days?

Pros

None, I would say remote work but it’s very toxic.

Cons

Poor leadership (manager and director), poor communication, poor training, unrealistic m expectations, micromanagement, no SOPs, lack of structure, FLSA violations, no upfront disclosure of what role is, stingy management. People outside of HR are great. In HR? They’re happy to lay people off and talk about it so casually during meetings. Think “it’s our yearly layoffs” and joking about catching people “slipping”. No opportunities for growth despite saying there was during interviews. Interview and reality are worlds apart. No diversity. Severe control issues. No new people have been hired in over 3 years yet multiple people have left so people are burnout. One person handles all of one process alone and management thinks that’s ok. For reference the same process takes 10-11 associates in the same sized org. I can go on. Stay away!!!
