Salaries for software developers are stuck in 1998. Instead of increasing salaries to retain competent employees, or just hiring an entry-level employee, management has hired a former developer as a remote contractor at a premium hourly rate for routine tasks. How can management rationalize paying a contractor premium rates for entry-level tasks while expecting dedicated, full-time staff to accept severe undercompensation, especially when their market value is two to three times higher at any other company?
