Scam site hires anyone, pays them terribly - Editor FirstEditing.Com Employee Review

Pros

Allowed me to get a job with minimal credentials.

Cons

Editors get 30% of what the client pays. There is no way 70% of income is needed for overhead. Clients think they're getting a reliable service, but they'd be better off contacting reputable editors directly. Editors are encouraged to persuade clients into paying for professional editing when, in many cases, the client's project needs much more than a simple grammar check. Clients and editors are not allowed to communicate directly, which isn't good for anyone. I could go on.

Pros

I get recognition as an elite, experienced editor with one of the longest-standing online editing companies. The company provided additional editorial training, and I achieved certification as a developmental editor. Best of all, I am supported by client account managers who provide answer calls for customer service, so I get to focus on just editing.

Cons

Providing samples for clients requires that I have to prove myself again and again as an editor. (I get a bonus for this work, but it is honestly not huge financially.) Also, I work online which can be lonely.

Pros

Ability to work remotely and low bar for entry

Cons

Editors receive a minority of what clients pay, which brings the hourly rate down near minimum wage unless editors rush through projects and deliver subpar work.
