It had a wonderful working culture, they were willing to pay us to train in AI-related competencies.

It was all a lie. It was essentially a hint that there was no more work needed on out part (ML was trained) and the funds were running out. They laid off around 80-85% of their staff. They didn't even have the decency to warn us ahead of time to look for jobs. They gathered us all in a meeting told us who would stay and who would go while reading from some chatgpt script. No concern shown even after more than 5 years together. For context, I never said this aloud while I was working there but there had to be some red flags when I realized that this 'company' has been developing an app that took more than 4 years to launch ( soft launch / beta testing). Even as I write this, the app, has not been hard-launched or done anything meaningful that Google AI mode or any LLM with an agent mode can't already do.

Contractor based, so no benefits aside from the hourly rate
