Pros

Being able to work on passion projects that are likely to be commercially successful Professional work environment Friendly team that's always willing to answer questions The ability to choose which days you're available to work

Cons

It may be difficult to consider these "cons" given their reasoning is understandable, but in my experience, the few cons would be: Sporadic/inconsistent schedule as a freelancer (understandable given editorial is all on a per-project basis with each having their own unique schedules) Working on CST or EST can be exhausting when work is delivered and due in line with Pacific Standard Time (again, understandable given the studio is based out of Burbank, California and they're kind enough to hire remote talent across the U.S). It's not uncommon for me to receive editorial between the hours of 3:00 P.M. - as last as 8:30 P.M. with a next-day due date. Freelancers aren't afforded any form of direct deposit and must await physical checks which can sometimes be as late as month behind.

Pros

-High end, high profile clients and IP to work on -Most co-workers are seriously talented individuals and great collaborators -Management can be decent at times, believe it or not

Cons

-Streamland Media and the banks that own Formosa = corporate and bottom line interests will always outweigh employee satisfaction and retention, i.e. there's not much in the way of COLA, and layoffs will happen whenever the banks do the yearly budget -Management ranges from Napoleon-complex-syndrome to outright greasy/skeetchy word salad shooters -The HR wing is a vast, dense and over-staffed bureaucracy, which are suspiciously immune to layoffs; good luck getting anything out of them While there is all manner of high profile work coming through Formosa, the pay and benefits fall short of most standard game internal development studios. The 401k is a joke, and there is NO company contribution/match. Medical/dental benefits are way below average. For a company of this stature and having touched so many huge titles, you'd think they would do a better job with their current employees. I think it's their inherent Hollywood business model/culture, which is the usual 'take it or leave it' attitude. They'd be happy to replace you for someone hungry enough to work with a gun in their back for a bowl of rice a day. They'd get one star but I work with some awesome audio folks which is their only saving grace.
