Pros

The company looks great on the outside! Solid corporate culture, clear values. Every Friday is a corporate team-building event, which usually looks like a video broadcast of a party from the head office in Ottawa, where there is a Barbie-land atmosphere. The company supplies its remote employees with modern Macbooks and monitors. Very helpful IT support team, ready to solve any technical problem in minutes. Employees are given discounts on products distributed by the company. On Fridays everyone works until noon - it is official. At first glance, a dream company.

Cons

On the other hand, the internal process seems somewhat chaotic. The entire development process is broken down into projects, some of which can last for years, and by the time they are released, they manage to become outdated and need to be redesigned. The teamwork is badly organized. Code review looks like throwing a hot potato, which sometimes results in a week-long delay in deployment and when the code is deployed the changes can be unnecessary. There is a lot of fake joy about any slightest action of a newcomer (as parents are happy about the first step of a child), but there is a lack of transparency and no real feedback from the management about the work. The company tries to combat disorganization with virtual meetings, which take 30% of working time, sometimes completely out of the blue. External gloss hides the fact that the company does not particularly value its employees. It provides an average salary and average health insurance. The turnover is at a fairly high level. The company tries to improve the way it looks in the media by encouraging employees to write positive reviews on Glassdoor. However, this is no guarantee against sudden dismissal, like Sam Altman - with a sudden video call and ridiculous reason.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your experience at our company. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us understand the perspectives of our team members. We're pleased to hear that you found positive aspects in our company, such as our corporate culture, values, and IT support. We would like to provide some clarification on a few points: Live Productions: While we do host bi-monthly Townhall events, they are not corporate team-building events broadcasted from Ottawa every Friday. Instead, they involve live participation from various locations across North America, including Ottawa. We appreciate your feedback on this, and we will strive to ensure that our communication about these events is clear. Code Reviews: Our code review process is designed to ensure the quality of our work. Like many tech companies, we believe in collaboration and constructive feedback. We'll continue to assess and refine our processes to improve efficiency. Employee Celebrations: The acknowledgment of a newcomer's achievements, like submitting their first MR, is part of our effort to foster a supportive and positive culture. We understand that individual preferences may vary, and we'll take your feedback into consideration as we work to improve our overall team dynamics. Feedback and Check-Ins: We are committed to providing regular feedback through check-ins and 1:1s. Unfortunately, if your tenure with us was brief, you may not have had the opportunity to experience the full extent of our feedback processes. Turnover: We would like to clarify that our turnover in the engineering team is extremely low, especially in comparison to industry standard. We appreciate our team's dedication and strive to create an environment where everyone can thrive. Glassdoor Reviews: While we encourage employees who feel positive about their experience to share their thoughts on Glassdoor, we never pressure or incentivize reviews. We're proud of our internal culture, as reflected in consistently high internal culture scores. Finally, we'd like to express our regret if your experience did not meet your expectations. We are continually working to enhance our workplace environment and appreciate your insights as we move forward.

Pros

Mostly good people Fair compensation Unlimited PTO that’s usable Market ownership

Cons

Politically charged and rampant Cronyism Identity crisis simple e-commerce vs ai innovation.. simply stated they are chasing rainbows and ignoring the basics Nepotism is normalized. Opportunities are given to the same anointed groups . Completely a make believe culture that very few actually experience Openly pro Ottawa but also anti US in action … slash and cut former Emerson staff through RIFs while actively recruiting for positions as Canada only based Formally trustworthy but far from it now They have clearly over rotated on AI with no real wins. Bloated engineering (very) . It grows seemingly to justify management layers vs actual need . Equity is hard to get post initial package
