Pros

GHD as a workplace is rooted in authentic, transparent leadership and a team that strives to grow and improve in all areas of business. Trust and support is given—there's no hand-holding or micromanaging. Sick time or PTO is not scrutinized. No one gets yelled at ever (unfortunately a pro that must be stated within the design industry). All designers voices are welcomed—or even requested—to be a part of the process. The team itself is friendly and gets along well on a personal level. It's a small team and everyone is approachable if you need help or just want to chit chat. The partners are involved in the day to day on projects and feel like an active part of the team rather than detached leaders. Since coming under new ownership, the diversity of work and client types has expanded fairly significantly. New business has picked up quite a bit over the years with a growing network of architects and developers that recommend GHD for projects. Additionally, leadership has become increasingly adept at defining scope in proposals and handling scope creep well—which is an issue I've encountered in other studios that generally leave the burden on the design team to do an unrealistic amount of work with no budgeted hours. Like the title says, GHD checks all the boxes, in my opinion. Work life balance is a huge plus, design quality, transparent and approachable leadership.

Cons

Salary is slightly below other studios in the industry. I would say it's somewhat made up by a more-generous Holiday Closings policy and unlimited sick time. It's also been noted as an active goal from the partners to increase salaries once new business is a bit more stabilized. It is a "wear many hats" type of team, and inability to take initiative and step up where help is needed doesn't fly. Not necessarily a con, but could not be a fit if you're looking for a job that structures roles more strictly. Overtime days are not uncommon, but is fairly typical in deadline-based work like this.
