Pros

GLAD has a welcoming office and organizational culture that I really appreciated. Especially as someone not working in the Legal department, it felt special that attorneys would take the time to say hello or have a brief conversation. Everyone else was also quite ready to make new hires at home. They are doing incredibly important work and it was very impactful to get to hear about ongoing legal cases at weekly breakfast meetings as a non-legal team member. The work we did (planning and executing a large annual fundraiser & other smaller projects) was interesting and always articulated well by supervisors. They also put a lot of responsibility on interns, which was very meaningful in getting more experience and feeling like a part of the organization.

Cons

As is often the case with non-profit event planning, it was a challenge to plan an event that is planned by a different team of interns every year - things are not always consistently organized or inventoried, documents are inconsistent, and it can feel like you're missing small details. However, aside from that (which is kind of inevitable in this field), I really enjoyed working for GLAD.

Pros

Cutting edge and very personable to work with. They know exactly how to market themselves and how to reach their needed demographics.

Cons

They are a bit too focused on nepotism within the organization when opportunity for employment arises. This can be an issue in public sector organizations.
