Pros

- The industry is fascinating, can't believe it's part of my job to talk about crypto everyday. - Gem is well connected and trusted in the industry. I've seen several people in the space on TV and then they show up at the office - cool to be part of a tight knit industry. - When I or other team members bring up something about the org we should change, I'm listened to. Leadership is focused on constant improvement. - Was not expecting to have such focus on employee experience - all hands meetings every week, events several times a month, bring trainers in for process improvement and professional growth, attending conferences as a team. It's a lot for a small company and I'm here for it.

Cons

- We've been hammering out our process and it took us a bit of time to understand how to optimize the team we have. - Things change quickly in this industry - sometimes what you work on doesn't make it out into the world.

Pros

The team is amazing. Everyone's genuine down to earth and collaborative. It is amazing to work with a group of people who are completely selfless and all want to see Gem succeed and does what it takes to get the job done. Its a group of people where I want to spend my free time with outside of normal work hours. The tech is really challenging. We are inventing or using extremely nascent technologies to achieve functionality yet to exist at large scale. It makes it incredibly challenging every day and the continual emergence and evolution of such nascent technologies requires constant learning. Finally the office environment is super relaxed and comfortable. It's hard to complain about anything when you are two blocks away from the beach! We work hard and we play hard!

Cons

The biggest challenge in working here is building with nascent technology. The tech has not matured to have features that we can leverage, the documentation gets out of date, examples you may find are stale and so you have to dive deep into the source to figure it out. So if you are not into problem solving and diving deep in a tech stack then this isn't the place for you. If you really love to be on the bleeding edge of emerging tech then come apply! Also, as an early stage company, we are small and so you have to establish process and adjust as needed. So don't apply if you are looking for a place with a lot of structure and a ridged/established way of doing things. Be prepared to take on a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility immediately.
