Worse job I’ve ever had - Legal Assistant Goss & Associates Employee Review

Pros

The other Legal Coordinators are the only ones that are supportive and keep this firm afloat

Cons

I have never hated a job this much in my life. I started applying for other jobs on week 2. Like most of the other reviewers, I took this job directly out of college. I feel that the CEO intentionally hires young adults in that particular demographic because she knows that people who are older and have been in the legal field for a while would never tolerate her behavior. I had one day of training before I was thrown into the deep end. The CEO labeled it as “the best way to learn is through first hand experience”. Yet she and the office manager would get frustrated and roll their eyes at me when I forgot how to do certain steps. I would often have to step away to cry and collect myself due to the stress and judgment from both of them. I set up a meeting to discuss my concerns with the CEO and she immediately got defensive and listed everything she dislikes about me. I quit right then and there.

Pros

I worked as an attorney at Goss & Associates for around 5 and a half years, having previously undertaken two placements with them during law school. I joined with little or no knowledge of U.S. immigration law and left to start my own practice – that gives a good indication of how much I learned from Attorney Goss during my time there. In addition to being a great mentor, I also found Attorney Goss to be supportive of my family situation and the flexibility that that required.

Cons

Working in a small law firm, in a new subject area, can be stressful for new attorneys. When compared to larger immigration law firms, financial compensation is lower (the trade off for a better work-life balance).
