Pros

Job stability for those who desire to go to work, do structured tasks, and leave at a decent hour (depending on your function). Can learn your job in 30 days, become proficient at it and spend the next decade or more doing exactly that if that's your preference. Decent commute if you desire to live in North Houston

Cons

Even as one of the top departments within the City, this place is a generation behind where it could be in 2019. The system is completely out of touch with employee relations. Very little internal promotion, most often earned by affiliation. Advancement within the City overall more heavily depends on who you know, not qualification or potential. Most administrative employees could work from home (as incentive for the fractional pay received), but mgmt wants you there, even when there's absolutely ZERO value based work to do. Travel and/or training, forget it unless you're an AD or above. Put simply, the organization does not deserve great (even good) talent. It is THE place to go if you want your career to die. You'll be a hard sell to large corporate recruiters after your time here.
