I was with Helix for about six weeks before I was laid off. That was an unpleasant surprise, but I also noticed that almost all the other employees hit by the layoff were women who were heads of their respective teams, as the founders "took back some duties" until finances stabilized, I guess. Combined with murmurs of a boys club culture I heard at some coffee dates with other employees and the fact that they laid off someone at eight months pregnant a year later, a picture starts to form.
