Pros

Annual/quarterly bonus and annual cost-of-living raise is a nice perk. The employees try hard to make the best of the workday and mostly work well together.

Cons

Extremely high employee turnover. Benefits leave more to be desired. Honesty and integrity fall second to cost and time savings. Corners are cut as often as possible regardless of how quality is affected. Company communication is awful. Business critical communications are poorly documented and frequently lost or ignored. The company fosters an environment of backbiting. Top management talks negatively about employees and makes fun of them behind their backs to other employees. Inappropriate jokes and comments are made regularly by top management, and it is to top management that those types of things should be reported, creating an environment where employees are uncomfortable reporting issues. Very limited opportunities for employee growth or development. No defined pay structure or position levels. Salary seems to be based on how top management felt on a particular day when salary was being discussed. Top management struggles to trust the employees to do their jobs and frequently micromanages and disrupts employee workflow. Money is not reinvested back into the company. Corporate equipment is obsolete and over-mended.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write a review with regard to your employment at Hemo bioscience. I am sorry that you had such a negative experience whilst employed. We have had significant staff turnover in the past few years. I am pleased to say however that the current staff are people who actually want to work and contribute to a meaningful experience within the organisation. You cited an unprofessional atmosphere however what one person deems unprofessional, another may deem to be humour. We do not all have the same views in our life and viewpoints and i would ask tolerance of all employees. Apparently it was so bad you stayed over 3 years with the organisation?

Pros

The only pro that I had while working there were the people that I got to work with on a daily basis. We had fun with each other and made it tolerable most days.

Cons

There is no clear direction on which way the company is going. Turnover happens almost monthly it seems, and there is a reason why that is happening. The pay is nowhere near industry average, and the owner prides himself on getting people on the cheap. There were no benefits while I was there, and for a person with a family to support this is not the job for you. There is no room for career growth, as I was told when I was interviewed. The company did not grow my entire time there, in fact it got smaller due to the amount of turnover. There is no HR department, so be prepared for some off color remarks and inappropriate comments.

Salary I am sorry that you felt the need to publish such a negative review of the company and your employment experience. Following this comment we reviewed salaries and hourly rates for all employees separated in the past 3 years and found them to be in line with the size of the company, location and job title/responsibilities. A bonus plan has been in place based on company growth for the past 6 years and this has consistently paid 10% of base pay putting most employees over industry rates. Benefits In the past 3 years, small companies’ benefits situation has been particularly challenging due to the Affordable care act disallowing direct reimbursement to employees for medical and dental benefits. Following the change in the law our employees were compensated with an annual pay increase of almost $6000.00 to purchase medical and dental insurance on the open market. I find your comment about lack of benefits to be disingenuous. Recently and since the ACA exchanges have deteriorated, Hemo bioscience has recognized that employees needs have changed and now offers group policy coverage under UHC. Human resource The “off color remarks and inappropriate comments” statement is worrisome to me, Hemo bioscience does not have a Human resource department per se, but does have a policy manual which states categorically that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. We reviewed records for the past 3 years and could see no incidence of this type of behavior being reported to a supervisor, manager or the president. On the other hand we made note of the fact that you enjoyed interacting with your colleagues on a daily basis and enjoyed the atmosphere of motivation and success. Growth In the past 4 years Hemo bioscience has developed 4 new medical devices which have been cleared to market by the FDA. International sales volume has grown over 30% and the company has relocated into a new GMP manufacturing facility doubling the capacity for output. I find your comments about lack of growth to be misstatements. Advice to anonymous former employee Firstly I make no apologies for controlling costs inside the organization, my responsibility to my employees is to ensure they have continued employment and an opportunity to grow. Secondly please learn to spell the word “Desperate” or use an online spell checker.
