Pros

Brighton is a lovely place to work.

Cons

My first review of this company contained some subjective comments and led to a threat of legal action and withholding of pay. I am providing a plain and factual account of my experience at this company. When hired I was told I would be working within a team, but from day one I was in a team of one and managed by someone with a different skills background. I found it difficult to obtain clear direction and did not receive the support I would deem appropriate to allow me to succeed in the position. Midway through my probation I was threatened with dismissal, I had received no formal indication that my performance was unsatisfactory up until this point. I was told after delivering a presentation and ‘knocking it out of the park’ I would have been fired if I hadn’t. Management sent an email on 10/11/2020 to enforce an impromptu 'one day notice' period for all employees in probation (affecting a high proportion of staff). This was not only an enforced contract change without consultation but breaches employment law by denying employees statutory notice periods (7 days). This was challenged and management attempted to enforce the one day notice period upon until the involvement of a board member. For October/November I was paid 14 days later than my contractual date. I received a range of responses to my enquiry into why I was not paid on time. I was informed by others that this problem was widespread and affected many employees. When I challenged the reasons given for my dismissal I was denied an opportunity to discuss matters in full and was in formed that 'we consider the matter closed'. I do not agree with the reasons given for my dismissal and I have not been given fair hearing to amend this account of my performance, meaning I am unable to rely upon this company for a fair reference. I have an ongoing legal dispute with the company and their treatment of me including: disregarding my statutory rights; enforced contract change; and fair representation of my performance. I am aware of incidents within the company between management and employees including comments of an inappropriate nature and an attempt to cover them up. As well as more than one other case of contested dismissal and final payment refusal. I am suspicious of the origin of the positive reviews on this website as they do not reflect my experience or that of those I spoke to regarding working at this company. Benefits are you will usually be paid on time but not always, you will be able to receive statutory notice if you threaten legal action. Downsides, you may be unhappy, be the recipient of inappropriate comments and have your contract changed without consultation or any reciprocal benefits.

We do not openly comment on individual former employees. Like all organisations, we have high expectations of our staff. When they do not operate at the standard required they are given a performance improvement plan. Should they continue to underperform, particularly during a probation period, their tenure with the company will be brought to an end. You are correct that we will not hesitate to take legal action against employees that commit gross misconduct by making libellous, defamatory comments on public forums, and also reveal commercially sensitive client information, in breach of their contractual terms of employment. We wish you the best in your future endeavours.

Pros

I got to meet some lovely people and the office space was nice

Cons

It's very hard to summarise the amount of cons that could be listed for this company. Starting with an obvious con, is the lack of payment on time throughout my employment and since I've left. It's been months of waiting for news of payment and there is no clear sign of when I and other former employees will be fully paid for the time we worked at Hex. The CEO seems friendly at first, but after working with him for some time you realise that he manipulates any negative situation that happens at the company to make sure he is never held accountable for anything that he causes. The company claims to be a diversity champion, however I saw many instances that were beyond disrespectful and showed a real lack of understanding or empathy for anyone that didn't follow the CEO's outlook. To say that this company gave me and others mental and emotional stress would be an understatement. There are many other things that could be mentioned, but the main point to be made from this is to never ever work for this company and definitely not for the CEO.
