Pros
You will be given hands-on learning experience in Trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The supervisors are very helpful and very kind. My internship was a huge eye-opener and was a great way to see how a clinical social work agency works. By the end of the internship you will be an assessment and documentation master! The kids can be a lot of fun and you can be creative in coming up with group activities.
Cons
Not for the faint of heart. The kids can be a handful, and sometimes you have to be the "bad guy" which isn't fun, but it is good experience. Watching the DCS and Juvenile Justice system can sometimes be frustrating and a little disheartening. Also, be prepared to run groups on your own within the first 3 weeks of your internship.
