The museum’s mission—to preserve and share Miami’s rich history—is meaningful and important. The work itself can be fulfilling, and the museum has great potential as a cultural institution.
Cons
Unfortunately, the internal work environment does not reflect the quality of the museum’s public-facing mission. In my professional experience—including retail and food service—this was the most disorganized and disappointing workplace I’ve encountered.
There is no formal HR department, which allows unprofessional behavior and workplace bullying to persist unchecked. The executive team tends to deflect responsibility rather than take constructive action. Discriminatory behavior, particularly within the marketing team leadership, was observed and is deeply concerning.
The executive leadership, in my view, lacks the experience and professionalism required to manage staff and steer the institution effectively. Without meaningful changes at the top, I worry about the museum’s long-term sustainability.
