Pros

Choosing your own work hours. Writing about cars.

Cons

The pay is nowhere near what they advertise. They pay $30 per 1200-1500 word article, which works out to be well below minimum wage, plus you need to source 10 copyright free images, and insert a lot of links, both internal and external, with anchor text, and you'll need to use keywords for SEO. Management told us to post positive reviews on platforms such as Glassdoor to balance some bad reviews they "felt were unjust." The titles are often pure clickbait and using negative angles, so you run the risk that no serious companies will want to work with you later as your name is attached to these articles. During my time there, they made endless changes to how the content should be written and the various processes, which was confusing and frustrating. I was accused of using AI to write an article, and then had to go through a whole interrogation. There was no apology when I was cleared, and they told me to consider it a warning. A couple of weeks later, I could no longer log into their system and it took 2 days before someone told me I'd been fired. I was never given a reason, but found out via LinkedIn that this had happened to others as well. If you like writing about cars, steer clear of HotCars, because they will ruin it for you.
