While there is an opportunity to work with friendly colleagues, it is only limited to the working level. Depending on which function you work in, the experience is vastly different according to the boss leading the function.
Tech generally gets to work on various products, albeit multiple and rushed deadlines. However, there is the independence and trust for team members to get their work done.
For other functions reporting to a different boss, there is a high turnover rate. Team members are not trusted to do their work, and have to try and meet high expectations that constantly changes. Team members also have to juggle and adapt to decisions and processes that is always changing, and not documented. While team members have to take on multiple roles and responsibilities beyond the agreed job scope, it is a general perception of the boss that team members are generally not doing much work and that they are well-paid for the amount of work they are doing.
Employees also have to be careful as the boss has an MO of letting people go without a proper reason and getting other people to break the bad news while frequently comforting existing employees that the management will do their best to prevent layoffs.
While the management expects hard work and commitment, employees are rarely rewarded. Engagement activities are rarely supported by management in addition to being seen as time-consuming and counter-productive if they take up working hours.
While there is a q&a session during frequent townhall sessions, the answers are usually a smokescreen or vague at best.
