Pros

Staff remain passionate and committed to their work. Lots of opportunities for international travel and good travel budgets for program staff. Great office space (large private offices for most staff - unheard of in the regular public service!)

Cons

Organization has lost direction, it is chasing after money from other sources as its future is uncertain with the Canadian Government. There is less and less core IDRC programming each year. Not a good place for long term job prospects or for people actually committed to research for development. Organization is not subject to Public Service staffing regulations and follows a system of internal promotions of people who say "yes" while people who stand up for accountability and good development practice are ruthlessly disposed of.
