Pros

Remote work with flexible hours and paid training. However I can only advice those to who want to collect a check and turn off their teaching experience skills should work here.

Cons

Ignite Reading has a overwhelming amount of toxic positivity, everywhere and that will show up everywhere from company correspondence to dialogue between teachers. You are not paid for any lesson planning time. Some teachers make extra materials that they are not paid for. Teachers are not allowed to speak about any negatives that come up while working. As anyone who has worked with students knows, not everything is sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes you need to ask other teachers or administrators for advice or help. However, we are no longer allowed to do that. Many teachers have voiced that they feel like "robots", required to only read a script and punished for deviating from it. Teachers are not allowed to connect with students, so I’m not really sure why they hire people with teaching experience—anyone could do this job. You earn PTO as you work, but if you use it, it will count against you. This includes anything—doctor’s appointments, emergencies, internet outages—everything counts against you. If you need to contact administration, it takes several days for them to respond, and most of their responses are regurgitated toxic positivity. There is no phone number only email. So get ready to wait for help if you need it from staff. This company promises that you will get a lot of hours because there are so many students in the program, but that is not reflect in the amount of students you will be given to teach. Additionally, you will have to deal with multiple cancellations and school holidays which are all unpaid. My advice would be to make this job is a side gig—do not count on this as even a part-time job. The only positive is the students’ faces. However, for anyone who has real teaching experience—not just data collection—I would advise you to seek employment elsewhere. This is not a teaching position, nor is it a tutoring position. It is a data collection company, and it is shameful that they are exploiting some of the most under severed community of students who actually need help with their reading skills.

Pros

The people are really friendly, smart, and hard-working. There's lots of opportunities to prove yourself and grow. The work you do makes an impact in the world of first graders. The work you do is recognized and celebrated.

Cons

Not a place for someone wanting to coast by. Don't expect to work 9 AM to 5 PM.

Pros

・The students where the best part; they where kind, sweet, and smart. ・Seeing real growth happen in real time; students making visible progress was always exciting. ・The work is meaningful when you build connections with the kids.

Cons

・The pace is intense and you are penalized if you spend more than one minute talking to a student, even when said students are making good progress even with longer check ins. ・It was all about tests and monitoring; obviously that's important, but no kid is going to do well when they aren't connected with whomever is giving them an assessment. ・Very little actual coaching or follow-up with managers; they just send you the list of everything you're doing wrong and tell you little about how to improve. ・Management is unfair to tutors; despite ALL of my students doing amazingly and improving SO SO SO much, they were still only about how I was taking too long in the intro and not saying their script verbatim. ・If you genuinely care about students, this isn't the place.
