Pros

Valuable introduction to the world of publishing and how managers fit into it. Work on everything from evaluating queries to organizing titles.

Cons

Not paid, not always enough to do and a fair amount of the work ended up being tasks like alphabetizing and photocopying, and there was no course towards an post-grad full-time position

Pros

- Weekly(ish) sessions on the different aspects of publishing like contracts, bookstores, graphic novels, etc. - Great people to work with - interns treated like adults and frequently included in conversation - Truly care about your future career and helping you get somewhere - All interns offered a chance to do paid work, amounting to equivalent of a travel stipend

Cons

- The work can be very monotonous -- if you can't see yourself reading manuscripts almost all day every day, this is not the position for you - Unpaid, which makes inaccessible to many qualified applicants - Workload varied week to week; some weeks there would be no manuscripts and others 2 or 3 to get read in a 3 day span. I brought work home with me more than once
