Pros

Decent pay, coworkers are friendly

Cons

If you don’t have prior experience covering the insurance beat, stay far away from this place. They will hire you, provide 1-2 hours of training & then make it seem like you are incompetent for not being able to handle the responsibilities. Management is so busy with their own work they have no time to train or develop their employees. One boss is so busy they don’t even have time to eat lunch. Micromanagement is rampant. Every contact you reach out to has to be written down on a spreadsheet so management can review it. Management does not follow standard work hours & expects the same out of all employees. Messages take place on the work chat at 2am, weekends & early mornings before work hours. If you don’t stay late (well after the already required 9-6pm) you’re looked down upon and treated as if you’re a slacker. Management just wants the max amount of exclusive stories to beat their competitor, without any understanding how long it takes to build a source network. The only ones that are able to write exclusive stories are the interim EIC (15 years in the business) & two reporters that have been at the company 3+ years.

Pros

Supportive leadership that values initiative and gives ownership early on. There are strong opportunities to learn across different areas of the business, especially in a growing and evolving environment. The team is collaborative, and you’re encouraged to contribute ideas and improve processes. Good exposure to both US and UK operations, which adds a broader perspective.

Cons

As a growing company, some processes are still being refined, which can occasionally lead to inefficiencies or unclear workflows. Communication between teams can sometimes be improved to ensure alignment, especially across regions.
