Pros

looks good on a resume

Cons

no diversity, low pay and very few people had bonus opportunities, no communication between departments, male dominated hierarchy, training was not provided for anyone who was in a club that didn't have the "budget" for travel, restaurant kitchens are covered with insects, some office buildings have rats and mold, no 401k matching, salaried employees are expected to work 50+ hours/week even during the slow season, constant rebranding with little to no improvement within the outlets

Pros

Strong work-life balance compared to public accounting. Leadership is supportive and approachable. The work is meaningful and provides exposure to ASC 740, multi-entity tax provision work, and corporate tax compliance. Employees are generally encouraged to collaborate and help each other succeed.

Cons

Compensation growth may lag behind opportunities available in some areas of public accounting. Advancement opportunities can be limited due to a relatively lean tax department structure. Some processes remain heavily dependent on spreadsheets and manual workflows, which can create inefficiencies during busy periods.
