Pros

There are some good managers whose decision making and good intentions are obfuscated by the senior leadership. Good opportunity to learn about e-learning and few technical challenges.

Cons

Unrealistic timelines set by a despotic senior management with questionable working ethics. The management lacks of basic management criteria to address the needs of the projects and deadlines. They leadership rules the company by imposing fear and bullying employees using harsh performance feedback, aggressive talks and disrespect. Making every performance review (1 every 3 months) an element of fear and anxiety. It does not matter how hard employees work, how many extra hours they work during public holidays and weekends, how much they push themselves over the edge to go the extra mile, it's never enough. You will always have to do MORE. There is no career progress for Sydney employees. The salaries are not competitive at all.

Pros

The work was very interesting and challenging. The company has a great product that is very feature rich. Excluding a couple of juniors with no other real world experience, almost all the staff that I worked closely with were fantastic. I would happily work with many of them again in future. The way the software really tries catering for all students of all abilities and disabilities is truly fantastic. They really have put in huge amounts of effort.

Cons

The product was split into multiple branches to hit deadlines years before I started and it made it nearly imposable to pull it back together. They were working very hard at this when I left. Because of the multiple branches work often had to be duplicated. The application is a huge Monolithic beast that often crashed even Visual Studio. Just getting up an running to do a simple ticket could take you a day. They always seem to be struggling to find the money to pay back the Tech Debt they created from short cuts made to get big sales. Continual changes in management means there is some new broom with a new way of doing things disrupting the work and muddling up the teams over and over every few months. Truly counter productive.
