Pros
There is a special kind of camaraderie formed when everyone suffers together.
Cons
The young, inexperienced artists they hire for $12/hr to sand the puppet faces are getting hurt by the process, some in ways that will handicap them for years. An air of misery and dread befell the studio when they announced they were laying everybody off so Travis Knight could direct the exact kind of movie he has publicly decried; a Transformers sequel. We learned this not from the company, but from a Variety article. I felt uneasy even before the layoff was announced, as people who were working there since the beginning were jumping ship or being laid off. It's a mystery why some people are fired and some people are kept in power despite incompetence. I saw people doing good work being kept down out of competitiveness. Lots of throwing people under the bus out of fear as jobs became scarcer. It does not feel like the company values their employees. The pay is insulting knowing how much the Knight family is worth. I can only imagine the reason for meager wages is Travis trying to save face with his dad. The livelihoods of 500 people are at the whims of one man. The layoff happened because of Travis and Travis alone (literally!). We are merely toys in a rich kid's toybox.
