Pros

At first they pay 3.5$ per 25 min. lesson, and every 6 months your rate per hour gets increased by 0.5$. Bonuses are okay if you conduct certain amount of lessons per month. Platform is good, but lately tech support or any kid of assistance is poor.

Cons

Booking can fluctuate and one month you can have 95% booking , and then 4 months in a row your booking drops to 57%.. They convince you that there are enough students, but many of us have experienced a huge drop in booking, but they keep hiring new teachers for some reason. You get fired if you receive 2 verbal and 2 written complaints. First time in 4 years I marked the wrong lesson page and I got written warning. Then I got one verbal warning because I didn`t have a poster with company`s logo behind me ( i moved to a new location, and it took some time for me to get a new poster..). A parent complained that my room was not too bright ( window was right next to my right shoulder), so I had to move my table and PC so that I am facing the window. The company gave me a verbal warning. A few weeks ago I had a 16 year old boy and we were doing advanced level material. The boy is intermediate level at best, and he was showing little interest in the materials. After the class I gave him homework in the lesson notes (it was grammar related ,tenses, passive voice..) A few days later, his mother complained that the homework was too easy. I got contacted by the administrator and I have explained everything to him. He said no problem. 7 days later I got an email that my contract has been terminated starting today. They closed all of my lesson slots and I was only able to see my rating, parents` comments etc. My former trainer contacted me vie skype to tell me that I have been fired and that there have been too many complaints. At that time my rating was 4.94 out of 5. And a few days later it changed to 4.95. It appears that parents have left comments saying that they are sad that I had left and resigned. They were shocked. They all gave me 5 star rating. So parents kept booking me, I have had regular students for 4 years , they were all satisfied, but the company wasn`t. My hourly rate has reached its maximum which was 7$ per 25 minutes, and 8$ per 25 minutes on weekends. I guess I became too expensive for the company. It is easier to hire 2 new teachers and give them each 3.5$ per 25 minutes, and they can do 400 lessons together, while I can do between 150-200 and get payed double their salary.

Pros

There are no positives here.

Cons

This was one of the weirdest experiences I've had in a while. I applied for an interview somewhere last year and was immediately invited for an online training following a short call on WhatsApp with HR. It was a red flag, but I let it slide since the girl was super nice and friendly. For those of you who couldn't find a LingoTurtle learning platform to check the details, it's because it doesn't exist. The actual name of the school is different. So here are the insane facts: 1. They make you sit and listen to two 1-hour-and-30-minute training sessions that are borderline useless. 2. The trainer was this strange guy who talked more about himself than the actual work and introduced us to the concept of Chinese people as if we had never heard of the nation. His feedback on my use of English was fair for the most part, but he was overfocusing on some phonetic remark regarding the /w/ and /v/ phonemes that he clearly didn't learn well, and I failed to understand what he was talking about on two separate occasions. 3. They will invade your PC 🤣. They schedule a call with this IT guy who needs to remotely connect to your device to check it. Initially, I refused this, but they stated that the process would be terminated if I didn't comply. So, I created a separate user on my PC without administrative privileges and let the IT guy access it. He then proceeded to open command prompt and was visibly frustrated that the command he was entering wasn't being executed and told me: "This will be a problem if you cannot resolve it in the future. We won't be able to fix any issues." 5. Then, after all of this, they weren't nearly done. HR will send you instructions on creating a fake identity and teach you how to present yourself as a Native speaker from the UK, the USA, etc. They will prohibit you from working near windows or doors since they do not want students and parents to see you in the wrong time zone (they can figure out if they see it's daytime or nighttime on camera). Overall, I didn't go through years and years of college and professional training to be forced to create an alternative persona for $5 per hour. No thank you. 🤣
