Pros

Breakneck growth rate means plenty of opportunities "Family feel" - but beware this is a double-edged sword Fun, talented, personable colleagues

Cons

Wellbeing initiatives are well-intentioned but miss the mark. Free books, meditation hours, yoga, and emails telling us to "start work later," to "take a long lunch," and to "take the Friday afternoon off" (note that we are expected to make up the hours) fail to acknowledge factors outside of the individual's control that contribute to burnout. These factors include structural disorganisation, woolly processes, lack of infrastructure, lack of people, and focus on nonstop [business] growth. People are burning out - especially content creators and medical writers. Colleagues feel "trapped" at work due to workload and don't perform at their best. The company will respond with the usual party line, saying that "there was a period of growth and challenge" and that "XYZ" are in place to mitigate. Be warned: these issues are chronic and ongoing.

We are very proud of our breakneck growth and family feel, thank you – we also acknowledge recognise that this growth creates newfound pressures and can feel overwhelming. There are multiple channels within the organisation to access additional support, and everyone has access to development, mentorship and coaching to continue their personal growth. We continually encourage feedback and individuals should connect with their leadership team or MP if they need support to understand the development opportunities available. We have streamlined our work, focussing on the therapy areas that reflect the most meaningful healthcare interventions and client prioritisation reflects our ambition not to over stretch our teams, we absolutely do not encourage a win at all times culture, and know failure is intrinsic to our growth! We’re also beyond proud of our wellbeing leads and the initiatives they work so hard to bring to life, they are indeed well intentioned, and our wellbeing leads rely on their colleagues’ feedback and insight to understand what wellbeing looks like for them and what they need if current activity isn’t hitting the spot. Anyone at Lucid Group can reward and recognise their colleagues, through Shout Outs and Culture Awards we promote peer to peer recognition, as we know it means so much to everyone! We also have annual awards, passion projects and a wealth of benefits, engagement initiatives and team level activities to keep everyone connected and appreciated. Contribution to success comes from all areas. Our scientific, account, editorial and creative teams work incredibly hard in partnership to deliver excellent work together, and contributions will continue to be recognised, from whoever the contribution has come. We are, and commit to remain, always seeking feedback, insights and solutions. Whilst you may have left Lucid Group now, if you want to contact me (or any of our leadership team) on LinkedIn, we’d welcome a conversation about your experience here. Reast assured, myself and our leadership team take this feedback seriously. We have taken time to consider our response and liaised with colleagues in team to ensure it’s aligned with a breadth of perspective. We’re confident that this isn’t the experience of most Lucidians, and want to work with anyone who has a contrary opinion, as we relentlessly strive for excellence across our organisation. All the best for your future, Angela Young, Chief People Officer
