Good pay for the area, great as a stop-gap but not for long term progression - Content Editor LucidCX Employee Review

Pros

Nice location against commuter traffic Small enough that you can get a breadth of experience in your role and days aren't always the same. Occasional treats from management. Great if you want to turn up, focus on work then go home.

Cons

Role boundaries and processes aren't always clear. Quiet office - teams and individuals are very siloed and collaboration is rare. Lack of investment in people and improving tools and processes. Not much training and very little career / personal development.

It is always a danger to appear defensive when writing responses to reviews like this so I will simply present another view and let you, dear reader, make your own mind up. I would also like to add that the points below do not necessarily apply to the person above (I genuinely do not know who it is) but they are relevant to anyone reading this who is interested to hear an alternative view. We're a small team of around 35 so role boundaries are not always clear, especially as we do new things. We see this as a plus for job variety but if you want to turn up, focus on your work and then go home again you may feel differently. We expect to pay overtime from the first hour in non-management roles as we feel that is a fair exchange. Some roles are siloed. That's just the nature of some jobs anywhere you work but we recognise this and you can stick your headphones on, zone out and quietly get on with things. Collaboration isn't available in some roles but is working well in others. We are very careful to point this out in interviews as it doesn’t suit everyone but others love it. A good half of the people currently working with are internal promotions. This has included account managers, analysts, department managers and IT so career development is available to those showing desire and ability. Sometimes this hasn't worked out or those who have been promoted have seen lifestyle changes so we've happily let them re-join their previous role where it still exists. We have had five people leave and want to re-join at a later date. Where we have been able to, we’ve welcomed them back. Over half of our team have been with us for more than five years. New joiners are mostly because we are expanding rather than people leaving. We train everyone up for the tools and techniques they need to use and do support people's career goals. What we won't do is to train someone up for a job they want in another company. We are totally open about people in certain roles needing to be self-starters and you will be supported but won't be gifted everything on a plate. Like any organisation, we give opportunities to those who are hungry for progression, not those who just expect it. ‘Occasional treats’ rather depends on what you expect. They comprise: - Free tea and coffee, pizza Friday, fruit and snacks, drinks, BBQs and a fully stocked bar - Free sanitary products - Free music streaming account and headphones - Free Christmas party - Free day out during the summer (unfortunately not this year). Previous events have included Ultimate passes at Thorpe Park, a professional Whodunnit? night, tank driving, archery, Honda pilots and rally car driving. A bit of a moot point right now, but we have always offered flexible working hours and the ability to work from home where practicable. We have flexible start and end times too. If you are working on content for a 60" TV or an embargoed phone, this just can't happen. Our product roadmap is our own and has many new and innovative items on it that, for obvious reasons, we do not share with everyone. We do not always have the resource to drive some of these forward at the speed we would like because our clients come first and when they ask us to build something new and exciting for them we make sure we do. We employed an HR professional for 18 months who also cross-trained one of our team over this time to ‘manage our people properly’. Some people didn’t like what they heard while others took comments on board and really turned things around which is great. Contrary to how some people view employers, we genuinely want people to do well and thrive in their roles. Why would anyone want to go through the pain and expense of replacing good people? Due to continued expansion we have recruited several new members on to our management team. Initial feedback is excellent as we work towards taking the business to bigger and better things. If you are reading this as someone who is considering working with us, hello and thanks for taking the time to read to the end. Please feel free to ask about any of this before, during or after your interview. We’re also happy to put you in touch with anyone who works here who I know will give you their open and honest view. Thanks, Bill
