Pros

Stable company, no lay offs. Mostly good people to work with but, there are some bad employees, but for some reason they get to keep their jobs. If you like to work ten hours in the office then go home and work some more, this is the place for you.

Cons

Interviews are 8 to 8.5 hours long… this is not an exaggeration, they are literally a full day. My initial offer was way too low for someone with 12 years experience doing the job they were interviewing me for. Which was the minimum they could offer me for that job. I did turn them down at first, then they gave me a little better offer. Which, I also wanted to turn down. But, I didn’t have another viable option at the time so I took it thinking that I would just keep looking. Raises even for an “Excellent” reviews are something like 2-3% which would be a joke if it wasn’t your life. New hires are paid more than people who are established in the company since raises don’t keep up with the market. One of Lutron’s 5 Principles is “Take care of the Employee”, that principle is completely ignored by current management. You are a number to them, Plain and simple. Upper and Middle Management is just bad at it’s job. People are kept off balance so they cannot become comfortable at their jobs. There are NO scheduled breaks, even though they are required by law and people usually work through lunch. If you leave at 5 you’re looked down upon and made to feel like a freeloader. No matter how many hours you worked before then. Employees are so inundated with work that they can’t possibly get it done within work hours and need to take their work home. In certain departments you have to spend a quarter of your time protecting yourself to make sure no one can blame you for anything because half of them will kick you under the bus trying to blame their mistakes on you. Lutron is one of the reasons that Unions should be brought back. Their expectations of their employees is ridiculous and they don’t care about the family / work balance. In their opinion, they feel they own you. If you live to work, hate your family, and can suck up with the best of them Lutron is the place for you. Not only would I not recommended Lutron as an employer, I have actively told people to avoid them if they have the option. I would have if I had another option.

Pros

— Legitimate portfolio work: the role involved a full website overhaul and product PDP writing, which has real value on a CV — The company name carries weight and looks good on paper

Cons

Pay was consistently late — sometimes by three weeks. No explanation, no heads up, no acknowledgment of the stress this creates for contractors who don't have the luxury of waiting indefinitely for money they've already earned. On the day-to-day side: we were required to produce detailed logs of everything we did — long, tedious activity lists that served no clear purpose and ate into actual work time. The broader culture was captured perfectly in a phrase that came up regularly in stakeholder meetings: "I won't fall on my sword" or "I won't die on that hill" — or some variation of it. Upper management had a consistent habit of deflecting accountability downward onto contract workers, who had the least power and the least protection. When things went wrong, contractors were the convenient explanation. When things went right, that credit traveled elsewhere. If you're considering a contract role here, get your payment schedule in writing and ask very specific questions about how your manager operates. What's described as a flexible, collaborative environment may look quite different once you're in it.
