Pros

Depending on your supervisor, I would guess there is some flexibility. However that was not my experience.

Cons

Endless pointless teams meetings, total lack of oversight with management, so they can treat the staff under them like garbage. The job I applied to and interviewed for (and was told I was being hired to do) was a complete 180 from the job that I was *ACTUALLY* going to be doing. I applied for a program specialist position that listed two cities in my own state that I was going to be responsible for. When offered the job, those two cities turned into a statewide position. After being hired, within a week on the job, that position turned into a THREE STATE area that I was going to be responsible. Had I known this was going to be the case, I never would have even applied. The person that hired me told me this job was "incredibly independent" and that I was "essentially going to be my own boss," which was what I was looking for. I need something with a very flexible schedule and I told that to my supervisor to-be. This person assured me this was definitely the job for me. It became very clear within the first three weeks that this was absolutely not the case. I was expected to be in front of my computer from 8am to 5pm, regardless of the fact that there was not enough work to fill that amount of time. The program specialist position is a part-time job, at best, but they also expect you to be able to drive 10 hours to give a presentation that lasts 45 minutes. This was one of the worst employment experiences I've ever had, and I've been working professionally for close to twenty years. My manager micromanaged me and was so condescending that after seven weeks, I would start to feel sick just seeing emails arrive with my manager's name attached. I lasted two months before I quit. This place is so poorly run, it's not worth trying to get a job with them.

Pros

Benefits, people, culture, leadership, flexibility. Family oriented.

Cons

Benefits are expensive but good. Very complex organizational structure compared to other NGO's.

Pros

Somewhat flexible ability to work from home but my manager has even tried to restrict that.

Cons

Completely mismanaged because they promote favorites over people who actually know what they're doing. Severe imbalance between salaries/workloads of those at the top and those in the field doing the hard work. Consistent budget crisis cited for lack of promotions but now everyone needs to be a fundraiser despite not getting paid appropriately. Constant change of platforms and processes make it extremely difficult for new hires to adjust.
