Pros

- Despite their best efforts, there are still some great people there who joined to do great work to help people. - Really cool London office, though the rest of the country gets short changed. - The SaaS stuff coming out of R&D looks cool.

Cons

- Thanks to regular rounds of redundancies they're losing so many of their best people. Not only are they getting rid of them, it means almost everyone who is any good is now looking around for somewhere new because they know it could be them next. That's not an exaggeration: every single quality person I know who's still there has told me they're actively looking for something new. - They stopped doing what's right and started doing whatever makes money a long time ago. The business is being run by spreadsheet, and has permanently moved away from what used to be a company with purpose. - There is zero real interaction or communication from the Exec. The only times they pop up is when things are going badly and they're firing more people - then they do a few big meetings, say what they think are the right things before going back into their rooms and concentrating only on how to win big contracts and bump up their numbers so they can pretend to the market that things aren't falling apart (which they are). - There is no trust between teams and senior leaders. - Their financial projections are crazy. They're still talking about becoming a business that will earn £400m+ by 2030, when they're struggling to get to £40m now. Just because they did well during covid doesn't mean that type of growth will continue, nor that it should. And focusing on growing like that is putting pressure on the whole business to chase the money, with people feeling like they're being asked to work on things they don't want to. - Hiring is all over the place. There is always a massive bench of people desperate to be doing something productive, but somehow there's also never the right people available to work on projects. - Pretty much all of the Exec and leadership team is a white man, or at least one of those two things. They talk about diversity, but when it comes to the senior staff that doesn't count, which speaks volumes to the rest of the company. - The Academy programme is no more than a marketing gimmick. It doesn't run consistently, and even when it does those grads don't get to do any real or appropriate work. - Just about every single benefit that was worth joining for has been stripped away. No more unlimited annual leave, learning time, sabbaticals and so much more has gone. Any remaining benefits will only last as long as they don't cost anything, so any remaining good ones will disappear too. - There's a saying that goes "values are what you'd be willing to lose money over". It's clear that Made Tech has run out of values, despite what it says in the handbook. - There really isn't any USP for Made Tech any more. The name used to stand for something, but now it's become just another average-to-poor digital company selling agile stuff.

Pros

Mission with Substance: Unlike many consultancies where social value is a footnote, Made Tech’s commitment to the public sector is the core driver. Leading the Data and AI practice here means solving problems that actually affect citizens' lives - from healthcare efficiency to smarter government services. Engineering Excellence: There is a deep-seated respect for modern engineering principles (TDD, pair programming, and robust CI/CD). This makes me feel proud of the work our teams deliver because the underlying data foundations are built with quality in mind, not just speed. Radical Transparency: The Open by Default culture isn't just a slogan. From salary bands to the company handbook and even board-level decisions, the level of transparency is refreshing and builds a high-trust environment for leaders. Autonomy to Build: As a Practice Head, you aren't fighting red tape. There is genuine appetite for innovation in LLMs and data engineering, and the leadership team provides the runway to shape the roadmap authentically.

Cons

Consulting Pace: Like any high-growth consultancy, the pace can be intense. Navigating public sector procurement cycles alongside rapid-fire delivery requires a high level of resilience and stakeholder management. Maturing Processes: As the company scales, some of the internal startup-style processes are still catching up to the size of the organisation. It’s a work in progress, but it requires patience.
