Pros

Before Mapistry, I had worked in traditional environmental consulting (soul-crushing to be 90-110% billable), commercial real estate at a large corporate (soul-crushing to be stuck under corporate hierarchy/lack of career development), and then another tech start-up (soul-crushing to feel drowned in unrealistic expectations and non-existent resources). So for me, Mapistry is a total breath of fresh air. I bring a unique blend of talents and Mapistry has been eager to explore and evolve my role to nurture them. I personally find the customer-facing and technical work fascinating and varied. Each day is different and the day-to-day isn't boring. Goals are largely self-determined and consider career and skill development as priority. My team is comprised of truly wonderful, smart, and effective people. Coming off a long string of pretty toxic cultures, I was delighted by the apparent deep care about the work, without compromising on work-life balance or team morale. Management now prioritizes team cohesion and bonding, with frequent structured and unstructured events to just be people together. Overall the culture is fun, flexible, and pro-human. The Berkeley office is a great resource to foster a comfortable mix of in-office and at-home-heads-down time. PTO days are highly respected, Slack is mostly quiet over the weekend, and it's easy to maintain healthy work boundaries. I'll also make clear that management communication has notably improved since the era of some past Glassdoor reviews. Having been misled by my past startup management, I was pleasantly surprised by Mapistry's radical candor and humility about past leadership. The cofounders' have put a lot of work into their management style, it shows, and they haven't let me down yet!

Cons

Promotion, raise, compensation structure is a little unclear. That's pretty ubiquitous for start-ups, but as the team and company enters a new growth era, it'd be nice to get a clearer sense of progress.

Pros

You will learn only one lesson here: how your ego can destroy the workplace ambience and how you can avoid it.

Cons

The ego of the founders was too fragile. These evil people fought amongst each other and made things awfully uncomfortable for the staff. Employees witnessed their aggressive and poor behavior almost every day. Some even feared talking to these horrible people. It ruined the workplace ambience and made day-to-day life ridiculously stressful.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. As one of the founders, it’s tough to read that someone had an experience that felt this negative, and I’m genuinely sorry if our actions contributed to that. We’ve grown a lot both as individuals and as a company since the early days, and part of that growth has come from hearing feedback like yours, even when it’s painful. Startups can be intense, and as founders we can make mistakes and can let stress show up in ways that impact others. That’s something I take seriously. Over the years we’ve worked hard to build healthier communication habits and a workplace where people feel respected and supported. I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, and if you are open to sharing more details confidentially, we welcome additional feedback so we can continue to learn and grow. We wish you the best moving forward and hope your current role brings you the environment and stability you were looking for.
